Purpose: To investigate if what Pixar Animation Studio movies males prefer more than females (if any).   Source(s): I used the List of Pixar Animation Studios films Wikipedia page . I scraped most IMDB ratings mid-2019, but manually added in the post 2019 movies yesterday. When you have an IMDB account, there is a page that shows you gender demographics and age demographics. IMDB gets these demographics from their IMDB members who have registered with their gender and age. I group mean-centered the data (by gender) to see if women still liked Pixar movies more than men after controlling for this small systematic bias. Pixar movies are rated higher than the average IMDB rating (Δ = .74), and there are no gender differences in overall ratings for Pixar movies (♂ = +0.74; ♀ = +0.75; p = .92).   Purpose: To determine what percent of Billboard top artists were male versus female.     Source(s): Billboard 100 year-end Top Artists charts 2011-2020 ( https://billboard.com/charts/year-end ) ( n = 850). I manually scraped the information and used my personal knowledge, Wikipedia, and images to determine gender. There might be an error or two in coding.   Purpose: With the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG), people lamented how a democratically appointed Justice was likely going to be replaced by a republican appointed justice. I wanted to see how frequently such things happened.    Justices are chosen through presidential nomination and are presumed to reflect the political ideals of that president. With this assumption, this graph shows how frequently a justice is replaced by a politically similar candidate. “Democrat to Democrat” means that both the outgoing and justice were nominated by a Democratic president. “Democrat to Republican” represents the case we are likely to see with RBG—a outgoing Justice nominated by a Democrat will be replaced with a Republican-nominated Justice.   The supreme court process is a bit complicated and I struggled with how to represent this most clearly. Purpose: To investigate how successfully Gordon Ramsay was at saving restaurants in his U.K. reality show “ Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares ” (2004-2007) and the American version, “ Kitchen Nightmares ” (2007-2014). Source(s): I extracted restaurant names from each episode (n = 99) and used a variety of measures to investigate if they are still operational. I first used fan-run websites to generate a list of restaurants that have been reported as closed (e.g., www.kitchennightmaresupdates.com or  www.realitytvrevisited.com ). Of those remaining theoretically still open kitchens, I checked google maps listings for the restaurant, looked for restaurant websites, looked for restaurant Facebook pages, catering services, and searched for online discussions that often crop up about reality show restaurants. Source(s): To investigate if people thought men were really funnier than women I reviewed the 226 Netflix Original Comedy Specials. For my sample, I retained only the ones in English (n = 163). The final sample had 127 male comedians and 36 female comedians. I then extracted the IMDB ratings for each of these 163 specials, which break ratings down by gender. R code is here . Data file is here .   Highlights: •        Men show statistical preference for male comedians ( t (47.9) = -2.83, p = .007), whereas women show no preference ( t (57.4) = -0.49, p = .628). •        To see if men or women preferred male or female comedians, I extracted the ratings from IMDB, which shows ratings by gender. •        For men, “Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones” (8.5) was most popular whereas “Amy Schumer: The Leather Special” (2.6) was the least. •        For wo...
